the deal
OK, so since a lot of people thought I was horrible to not take my kids trick or treating, here's the deal.
My kids went to the best Halloween party in town last weekend. We were there for 3 1/2 hours! It was a blast. Both kids also had parties in their classrooms at school today. They knew last week that because we had those things to do, that was "it" for Halloween, and we weren't trick or treating. (Keep in mind that my kids also have treat/gifts to pick up at my sister in laws house, my moms, and my aunts) I agreed to a backyard weenie roast, and ***Drumroll please**** no bedtime tonight.
Yep, that's right. No bedtime at all. My kids have never been up past 10 pm in their lives. I am a scheduled mom, and always have been. I cannot think of one single instance that either child has been awake past 10 unless they were ill. (Yes, that's right, I am a mean momma) So, this is a big deal to them! (But, neither really care when it is bedtime anyway, to be honest. They aren't night owls) They love to watch the "scary" movies like Halloweentown on Disney, so they are going to be allowed more tv time than usual, and can stay up (while in bed watching tv) as late as they can last. My bet is that they will be snoozin by 11.

I don't think you are horrible for not going trick or treating. We have only done that one year our kid's whole life. We always do a party or trunk or treat or something. Our kids are totally happy about that, and I like it much better. I hate the whole concept of knocking on someone's door asking for candy.
We aren't even celebrating Halloween tonight. We are going to go to my parent's church halloween party tomorrow night.
Wow, if they think you are horrible, they should have been raised by my grandparents. Not to say my grandparents were horrible, but they were terribly strict.
Your kids seem pretty happy and that's a testament to what great parents they have.
I have never taken any of my four kids trick or treating, and they are happy, healthy and well adjusted. We don't celebrate Halloween. Who says you have to go along with everything the general public does?
thats soo funny!!! I cant imagine taking my kids up to strangers doors and getting candy...this is a crazy world so i think you did the safe thing!!! just how i see it!!
We don't trick or treat either. Our kids get all the candy they need from our church Harvest Festivals in our area.
Besides, they don't need all the extra sugar...they have just as much fun doing cookie walks, and playing cames for candy. =)
