Road issue.
A friend of mine, Melissa Petty, has experienced a lot of stress regarding a couple of stories that were in and on some local media outlets here. Below is her side. If you don't know what it's regarding, check out the front page of the local paper.
Since I can't get Monticello Live to post any of my comments, I am going to tell my husband's side of the story:Jeff Petty DID NOT Cut the road!
His landlord had the road cut. Jeff told his landlord that Damon Lampkin said no you don't have permission to do that. But his landlord said there was no other way to drain the field and had the road cut. When Jeff told Lampkin that how much $$ he would lose if they didn't get his rice field drained, Lampkin didn't care. If the county would have had the road done right to begin with, it would have never flooded like that.
Jeff's landlord told Lampkin he would pay 100% of the costs. He thought Lampkin understood that, but decided to put a big article in the paper anyway and on Monticello Live. Which states that Jeff deliberately cut the road. Jeff DID NOT!
As far as we're concerned this is slander. Jeff's landlord is fixing the road and he is fixing it the way it should've been in the first place. The county should be thankful that Jeff's landlord is fixing the road properly and not the way it was. Although Jeff did not cut the road or even have the road cut, he was extremely thankful to his landlord for doing it.
It saved us thousands of dollars. The landlord said it was worth paying the total costs of the road than losing that kind of money in our crops.Jeff did call the paper and they're supposed to be printing his side in next week's article.

I read this in the paper and knew even though they did'nt mention it, mr petty was gonna lose a lot of money if they did'nt drain the field. They will probably fix the road back better than it was in the first place.
