All Stars
Monticello Girls Softball is officially a part of Babe Ruth Softball now.
We are also officially starting All Stars! The girls in the 7-8 league that make it on the all stars team will be a part of a 4 day tourney in Lake Village June 26-29.
Although I always played on travelling tournament teams, we never truly had "all stars" so I am excited that the board has done this for our girls. In order to be a coach in the tournament, you must pass a test. Thc coaches will be: the first and second place league team's coaches. (We are in first place right now, with 3 wins and 1 tie)
There will be two all star teams. My understanding is that they will be a sort of "first and second string" grouping. The teams will be playing individually.
They will be chosen this way:
Each coach will send one representative (coach or mgr) to a meeting this Saturday, where they will make nominations from their teams. All coaches from the other teams (5 in our league) will vote on who makes it.
Team one will consist of, 8 eight year old girls (you are considered to be what age you were on January 1. Therefore, although Jordan turned 8 on Jan 4, she is counted as a 7 year old in the league) and 4 seven year old girls. Team one will be the girls with the most votes.
The next team will be the same ages and breakdown, with the girls scoring the next highest votes. It will be a great priviledge to play for either one. Coaches have been given rules specifying that there be NO favortism, no "asking people to vote for your kid" and etc. Good sportsmanship is a MUST. I think this is going to be GREAT, and am so glad we are going this route.
The chances my daughter will make it probably aren't too good.... This is her first year (I don't believe in t-ball) and because she is counted as 7, there's only 8 spots to fill..... There are 5 teams, with 13 girls. So 65 possible All Stars!
I am very proud of Jordan; she has excelled at 2nd base big time, and rarely does a ball get past her. She has only struck out one time for the season. So if she doesn't get on there, that is okay, I know she has made progress that is very significant and we are excited for her advances.
