20 story high crosses

dean, July 19, 2008 at 10:34:00 PM CDT: chasing the links at the end of the article, i read a blog post by a universalist/unitarian pastor, and while i cannot agree with 99.9% of the beliefs of someone coming from that background, i DO agree with him that the money could be much better spent actually ministering to peoples' needs... especially at $1 million per cross. i am slightly torn on this as the visual of the cross could certainly stir something within a person, but by and large, a billboard could do the job for a fraction of the cost. additionally, the whole thing smacks of one-upmanship, as a number of churches around the country have built giant crosses that measure within a foot or two of each other, as if each subsequent cross were vying for the title of "world's largest." we can do better... much better.
