Easter
I debated on whether or not to blog about this.
Partly because I have no pictures, and partly because descriptive words do NOT do it justice. We attended the Easter program at Wilmar Baptist Church yesterday. This is where I grew up. Everyone there is like extended family. Mrs. Teresa Brewster directed (and CREATED) the program. She used songs from a "normal" contata, but wrote the "show" herself after having a sleepless night, waking up feeling driven to do this.
The choir performed some amazing music. It was shocking to hear such a handful of people create such overpowering songs! It sounded like the choirs in mega churches, with tons of people.
As they sang, "Jesus" (portrayed by Ben Daniel) slowly drug his cross upon his back up through the center aisle. He had the scars and marks of a beaten man. He was covered in blood. He was being poked and prodded by the swords of two soldiers, shoving him down to the front. To say this was moving is an understatement. It was no less moving than the Passion movie, quite literally. He had long messy hair covering his face. (So seeing this man did not bring to mind, oh there's Ben..... there was no personification to make you think of Ben in the least)
He exited the side door. The next time you see him, there's no lighting but black lights, as the choir sang. He was hanging on his cross in the baptismal area. His white clothing glowed, as did his blood. Once again, no face was visible. There was some smoke..... Eerily sickening to watch, yet none of us looked away. There was no one in that room thinking about Easter egg hunts or chocolate bunnies.
They move on through the stone being rolled away, and then to our Savior standing there, with raised hands, which were nail scarred. Amazing. Utterly amazing.
And to think it occurred in a church with less than 50 members. If you know Mrs. Teresa Brewster, you should tell her that you heard she created a masterpiece to lift our savior up, because she DID.
