School's Out, Ice is here

Typical of Arkansas weather, we are now having ice dumped on us. The first wreck was either that one, or the one that knocked out power all over town, including the traffic lights.
STAY HOME!

Jelly Bean started calling parents before Monticello and Drew Central ever announced they were closing. I was starting my new job today too! Thank goodness it was a light case day and we had just finished!

maybe my northern bias is going to show here, but i thought this got blown out of proportion. first of all, the forecast has been that temps would warm up to mid 30's, so the threat of icy streets throughout the day (especially when school would have let out for the day) is non-existent (the ground, particularly paved streets, is a good bit warmer than the air temp)... ok, we all know overpasses will ice before roadbeds will, so keep off of monticello's one overpass. bridges and shady spots (and the overpass for that matter) could/should have had sand spread on them.

plus for whatever precip there was out there that may have been hazardous, it was present at the time the school sent parents and school buses scurrying all over town transporting kids back home. that didn't seem too smart if driving safety was a motivation.

all in all, especially considering this was forecast and reported as early as yesterday, this should have been a non-event.
