An Open Letter To Jenny Sipes
I thought about this quite a bit before going about it in this manner. In the end, the reason I chose NOT to just email Jenny is because I hope that their are others that are in her place, that COULD witness to others, and could see this as a green light to bail out there and give their two cents.
Recently, as most people know, we began attending Journey Church. I have said many times that the people are friendly without being pushy and we love that. That being said, I have done quite a bit of chatting, mostly via email and etc with Jenny Sipes. (And also with Misty Morgan, who is also an amazing witness as well)
Jenny piped up and answered my question about finding the right bible. Maybe that doesn't seem like witnessing to you, but it is. Most of my closest friends probably would not even step forward and discuss bibles with me. Not being judgemental about that, but I am sure everyone knows what I mean.
Jenny (stranger to me, prior to Journey) is married to Jason Sipes. I did already know Jason, and have always thought of him as a friend. I feel like the Sipes family encounters a lot of the same daily struggles that we do, here at my house. So when Jenny said, oh I love this bible, and highly reccomend it, I thought, you know what? If Jenny is growing as a Christian and learning with it, I bet I can too. If Jenny can "get it" from that book I bet I can too.
And you know what Jenny? I CAN GET IT.
I LOVE THIS BIBLE.
Oh my goodness I had no idea there were such versions of a bible. I am totally floored by how easily I can relate these "myths" to my life.
Examples of these myths (that include scriptures to back up HOW they are myths) are:
I WILL NEVER BE FREE FROM MY PAST
IF WE DON'T LOVE EACH OTHER ANYMORE, WE SHOULD GO OUR SEPERATE WAYS
GOD DOESN'T WANT ME TO HAVE ANY FUN
MY MONEY IS MY MONEY
I NEED TO MAINTAIN A CERTAIN LIFESTYLE
AT LEAST I AM NOT AS BAD AS SHE IS
I CAN CHANGE MY MAN
I SHOULD ALWAYS BE MY CHILD'S FRIEND
IT'S OK IF MY HUSBAND IS MY ONLY FRIEND
MY SOULMATE IS OUT THERE SOMEWHERE
MY HUSBAND IS THE ONLY ONE WHO NEEDS TO CHANGE
IF I HAD HER LIFE, THEN I'D BE HAPPY
A SUCCESSFUL CAREER IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN BEING HOME WITH MY CHILDREN
whoa........ Lot's to absorb, huh? Well that is just the tip of the iceberg. There are sections throughout the bible that are written in a question and answer form as well, as though they were interviewing someone from biblical times. That part is also super informative to me, and gives me a much better understanding of the person in general.
I will literally be studying this for hours at a time, for days. I am an avid reader anyway, and when I have something I really get into, I am downright obsessive with reading.
So, back to the point. If Jenny hadn't stepped up and said, I think this is a great bible, I would not have bought it. I would not be able to have the spiritual growth that this bible is very capable of leading me to.
Positive peer pressure, huh? Wanna know what bible this is? Post, and I will tell you :P
THANK YOU JENNY :)
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future"
Jeremiah 29:11

Jenny is an absolutely wonderful person!!!
Wow. This is awesome! We'll go even more... my family will buy this Bible for the first woman who comments here that they would like one and...
1. Commits to read it daily for 30 minutes for one week.
2. Will share with at least two other people (immediate family doesn't count) ONE thing they learned from their week of reading.
Let the comments begin..! ;)
Also, I'd encourage other readers of Shelley's blog to consider purchasing (or giving) a Bible to a friend. Make it fun.
"All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. It is God's way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do." (2 Timothy 3.17-17, NLT)
this is where I got mine......

THANK YOU KT!! YOU ARE AN AWESOME PERSON TOO! THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!
Wow, thanks for posting that Shelley. I was just thinking this week that I wanted something that I would start reading daily and making myself have daily devotions. All of you that attend Jouney are very inspiring to me, and I love to read everyone's blog.
Jenny used to work at the bank with my husband, so I was excited to come across her blog. I guess the last I heard about her was when she was about to have her baby, and I am happy to see pics of her little cutie!
I will have to get me one.
Oh, and I THINK I might can tell you how to link through your post. I will e-mail you.
Maury,
Does that mean you are throwing your name in for the Bible? If so, you'll be the happy "winner!"
Well, I didn't post that just to get the free bible, I promise!! But maybe I need to take on that challenge, it would be very good for me!! So, o.k. I will accept the challenge...I think this is just what I need! Thank you!!
congrats Maury! I know you will love it.
